Build Mobile Apps With Zero Coding
With the success of iPhone App Store, several copycats are sprouting everywhere for other platforms including the BlackBerry. App Store is an application that behaves as storefronts showcasing applications that you can download directly to your device. Applications can be either free or needs your credit card number Handango (www.handango.com) Handango is one of the oldest storefronts selling applications for the mobile devices. The company started selling apps through the Web but now have an app store that you can download from the Web site. CrackBerry On-Device App Store (http CrackBerryAppStore. com) Partnering with Mobihand, CrackBerry also provides an app store where you can find great applications to download. BlackBerry Application Center This app store is still cooking in RIM's oven as of this writing but the concept is the same. The Google Mobile App suite for BlackBerry was launched in the second week of September 2009 and came as a free download to all BlackBerry users across the globe. This application accumulates and brings together many of Google's key features and functions into one comprehensive app. You can download the mobile application by following this URL from your BlackBerry browser http 77m.google.com (see Figure 11-1). Google Maps comes as part of the package if you opt for the Google Mobile App suite. However, you can also download it separately by going to http rn.google.com maps from your BlackBerry browser. Once it is downloaded, you can locate it from either your Downloads folder or Application folder, depending on your OS. You can also open it from your Google Mobile Apps.
This experimental venture started by two students has grown beyond a mere search engine and continues to take the world by storm. Just 'Google' it, will you has become a common part of world lingo. The word google might have become synonymous with search but that has not stopped the company from venturing into other avenues to provide a bundle of applications and software solutions, meeting personal and professional needs with equal ease. The GetJar business model is that you (the developer) pay them to list your game on their site and to serve it to the customers (that is, direct the users to the right binary and allow them to download). You pay a few cents per completed download, and you can also buy premium placement and advertising on their site. For the moment, you have to design and implement your own billing model (such as a try-and-buy system with a license key, as illustrated in the Access Control example). There are a number of social networking apps available. From networking sites high on popularity such as Facebook and Twitter to the less known ones as well, you will find a whole plethora of apps to choose from. Of course, most of the social networks today have a mobile app that can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World. Forum Nokia (http www.forum.nokia.com) is Nokia's mobile developer community for Web and application development. After registering for the site (which is free), developers can browse and download technical articles, specifications, emulators, and sample code. Nokia Series 60 emulators include all pre-installed mobile applications,
One provider of device remoting services is Mobile Complete, makers of the DeviceAnywhere (http deviceanywhere.com ) mobile application testing platform. DeviceAnywhere provides remote access to actual mobile devices running on operator networks in the US and Europe, charging a monthly fee for access to device packages (usually per operator), and an hourly rate for service access. Users remotely control mobile devices using a desktop application that allows full control of the device. Users can press buttons, view the screen, perform touchscreen gestures, navigate device menus, view videos, and listen to sounds emitted from the device. A competitive service from Perfecto Mobile (http perfectomobile.com ) provides a similar device remoting product, though at the time of this writing, audio access is not available to remoted mobile devices.
RDM plus Remote Desktop for Mobiles is a product by SHAPE services and supports all devices, carriers, and countries. It is available at the BlackBerry App Store and is a charged for application. A December 2009 release, it is a considerably light application in comparison to the services it offers. Whether you want to copy files, move, edit, or delete them completely, the RDM plus Remote Desktop for Mobiles software will take care of it for you, without your needing to be at your Mac or Windows computer.
Announced by SHAPE as their New Year gift to all BlackBerry users comes Business Card Reader. Some might recall that this kind of an app is not completely alien to the smartphone market. It has already been successful with the iPhone and now has made its way to the BlackBerry as well. It can be downloaded from various sites including the app store of the crackberry site (www.crackberry.com).
The first time you launch Gmail from your Google Mobile Apps landing page, it might take a few moments to initiate. Once it is loaded, you will be able to perform and use the application as easily as you use the online version. After loading, it will ask you to sign into your account, using your existing e-mail address (your-id gmail.com) and password. If you do not have a Google account, you can easily create one.
MobiHand also produces an on-device app store client, called App Store for BlackBerry, which operates in a similar way to BlackBerry App World though it's not quite as elegant. It allows users to search and browse applications, descriptions, and reviews and ratings, and it opens the mobile version of the MobiHand (or affiliate) web site for download and purchase of the application through the BlackBerry browser.
